Here we come with another easy peasy 5 minute guide. This time to let you root your Nexus S. I assume that you have the latest Android SDK installed on your computer. If not download it here.

So what are you waiting for? Load your guns and shooooooot!

1. Download Clockwork Recovery image.
2. I assume you have Android SDK installed in your C:\ drive in Windows. If so go to C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools and paste the recovery-clockwork-herring.img file you downloaded in first step. If you are not on windows or not having the SDK installed on your C:\ drive, take the idea from above path to locate the tools folder and paste the .img file in it.
3. Turn off your Nexus S. Now press and hold the + volume rocker and power button simultaneously to turn on the phone in fastboot mode.
4. Connect your Nexus S to your computer via micro USB cable you got with the phone.
5. Open a command prompt with administrative privileges. For Windows 7: Right click on ‘command prompt’ in start menu and choose ‘Run as administrator’.
6. Now you need to navigate to the tools folder from the command prompt. If  you have it at the same location as of me i.e C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools then you’d need to type following commands step by step:

cd..
cd..
cd..

This is to make sure that you have the cursor appearing just after C:\>. Once you have it, go ahead with the following commands:

cd Android
cd Android-sdk-windows
cd tools

You have navigated to the tools folder. Move on.

fastboot devices

The name of your Nexus S should appear on the screen after the above command. If it is there, move on. If not, you’ve done something wrong. Start over.

fastbook oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-herring.img
adb reboot recovery

Your Nexus S should have booted into Clockwork recovery by now.

7. Disconnect your Nexus S from your computer
8. Search for ‘Superuser’  by ChainsDD in Android market, install and run it. If you are unable to install the app from the market, detailed instructions to tackle the problems are here.

There you have the root access on your Nexus S! Enjoy and let us know about your experience in the comments section below. Don’t forget to keep yourself up to date about your Nexus S. For more handy guides check our 5 Minute Guides hub. [XDA]
