Google has just started rolling out the Nexus S OTA with Android 2.3.1 build # GRH78. This update is much more than annoying Nexus One owners like the fixed kernel, framework and updated Google maps. The update is rolling out slowly and not everyone is able to get it for now. But waiting is a curse you know! So why not go ahead and manually update your Nexus S? It is not going to harm your phone nor it is any risky thing to do. No root required, all is safe and sound. Just follow the following instructions:
1. Download this file with the update.
2. Save it on your computer’s hard disk and rename it as ‘update.zip’
3. Turn your phone off.
4. Press and hold the ‘+’ volume rocker.
5. Press the power button without releasing the + volume rocker.
5. Your phone has now started into the bootloader with dirty linux-ish text on the screen. You will navigate through the items using + and – volume buttons. Press the power button once to select an item.
6. You must see ‘Recovery’ on the screen. Navigate to it using volume buttons and select it using the power button.
7. You’ll see a red colored triangle on the screen after a moment. Now press the + volume rocker once again to have a list with the ‘update’ option in it.
9. Choose volume buttons to choose ‘Update’ and the update will start.
