HTC EVO Gets a Stable Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM!

Sure, we have had a Gingerbread ROM for HTC EVO earlier this month but that was a nascent ROM with hardly anything working because the source code of Android 2.3 Gingerbread was not available at that time. Now that Google has released the source code, we have lots of working ROMs appearing. To list a few: Nexus One, Galaxy S, HD2 and others.

XDA folks are all up cooking ROMs and we are all up posting the breaking news and posting the tutorials. This time we have an Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM freshly baked from the AOSP for HTC EVO 4G. One good XDA folk called preludedrew has made it possible. Seems like most of the stuff is working including Wifi, audio playback, radio with phone calls and data and contact sync. Most interestingly, there’s a work around for Google apps as well! What’s missing then? Only Camera and GPS. But you know that’d be fixed in no time!

Though everything is just fine, but the stuff is pretty much scattered over the XDA thread and seems like Preludedrew hasn’t updated the original post in a while. So there isn’t a handy how-to guide for noobs yet. Definitely we’ll be posting one soon so don’t forget to keep an eye on our Gingerbread oven to catch it!

[Thanks a lot Timothy Blackburn for the tip!]
